Are you looking to get more involved in a meaningful way? We started compiling a list for many worthwhile organizations and non-profits in and around Denton. Check out some great options below:

Animal & Wildlife

Children

Housing, Transitional Housing, Emergent Need

  • Denton County Friends of the Family – provide compassionate, comprehensive services to those impacted by rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence. Be sure to shop their thrift store, Upscale Resale.
  • Interfaith Ministries of Denton – nonprofit provides emergency assistance to economically vulnerable people in crisis to help prevent homelessness.
  • Denton Basic Services Center – dedicated to providing shelter for Denton’s low income and homeless population NOW.
  • United Way of Denton County –  help children & families succeed, guide & serve Veterans and their families, advocate for overall mental health, and to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring.
  • Our Daily Bread – We provide food, shelter, case management and more for the homeless and at-risk in our community.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Denton County – dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; through advocacy for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Be sure to visit their Thrift Store, Ruth’s Room and discount store, ReStore.
  • Denton County Homeless Coalition – A community-wide commitment to the goal of making homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring.
  • Hearts for Homes – Provides no-cost home repairs & safety modifications for low-income Denton County senior homeowners.
  • The Salvation Army – The Salvation Army’s Emergency Shelter offers year-round emergency night shelter as well as case management and life skills classes to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Arts, Music & Culture

  • Denton Music and Arts Collaborative (DMAC) – preserve the cultural integrity of Denton by enabling musicians and artists to continue to thrive here, namely by subsidizing healthcare coverage.
  • Greater Denton Arts Council – is a community arts organization for Denton & the surrounding community. A catalyst for creativity, advocacy and collaboration.
  • Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival – paying homage to the goodness of the harvest, Dia de los Muertos, the Fall season, and all things Halloween! This is an outdoor event with tasty food, awesome vendor booths, and our Denton community with the whole family. You’ll enjoy it right down to your bones!
  • Denton Holiday Lighting Festival – To provide a free, vibrant, safe, and fun holiday festival for the Denton community and to provide toys for children in need.
  • Denton Black Film Festival – created in order to address under-representation in film and media by giving Black stories an audience and Black creatives a platform.
  • City of Denton Library – Teen and adult volunteers help build community by promoting lifelong learning, encouraging human connections, and sharing resources.
  • North Texas Fair & Rodeo –  a first class nine day Fair and Rodeo, year round facilities, and various community and youth oriented programs and events. The North Texas State Fair Association strives to preserve and promote an understanding of the agricultural industry by supporting Youth, Agriculture, and Community. All revenue generated is reinvested into various programs, scholarships, and facilities.
  • Denton Community Theater – contribute to the cultural life of the community through theatrical experiences and promote education and interest in theatre and the performing arts.
  • The Art Room Denton – nonprofit art studio that provides people who have mental health issues with a safe, creative, and educational space in which to create art.
  • Denton County Office of History & Culture – Steward to the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum and the Denton County Historical Park.

Community & Civic

  • Friends With Benefits – benefits North Texas charitable organizations that better our local communities, schools and/or neighborhoods. Our goal is to organize fun events in Denton, Texas to raise funds and awareness to north Texas charitable organizations and causes.
  • Denton Community Market – producer only farmer’s and art market in downtown Denton, Texas.
  • Keep Denton Beautiful – mission is to engage our community in creating a clean, beautiful Denton.
  • OUTreach Denton – committed to providing mutual support, resources, organizing, advocacy, and fun with the LGBTQ+ community in Denton, Texas.
  • Denton Benefit League – serve Denton by raising funds for non-profit organizations, volunteering in the community, and building leadership skills in women.
  • Shiloh Field Garden – is a community garden providing fresh produce to those in need.
  • Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center – Volunteers from the community and local organizations are major contributors to the maintenance of the trail system and the success of events and projects at Clear Creek.
  • Denton Fire Traditions – nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the traditions of the Denton Fire Department.

Health & Wellness

  • Planned Parenthood of Denton, Texas – providers of high-quality, affordable health care, and the nation’s largest provider of sex education.
  • Chhaupadi – helping those in need of all ages from economically distressed and underserved parts of Texas access essential period products while instilling in them that menstruation is healthy and normal.
  • Denton County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) – a group of highly trained medical and non-medical citizens dedicated to supporting the county during public health emergencies or natural disasters.
  • Health Services of North Texas – nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality, affordable medical care for the entire family, from newborns to seniors, including prenatal care, counseling services, chronic and infectious disease care management, and prescription assistance programs.
  • Autism Adventures – non-profit organization that hosts local community events to promote social skill development, networking opportunities and ongoing support for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across their lifespan.
  • Austen’s Autistic Adventures – We empower autistic adults to be their own unique selves while learning to navigate the neurotypical world.
  • ACEing Autism Denton – nonprofit organization that provides weekly tennis lessons for autistic children and adults.
  • NAMI of North Texas – providing support, education & advocacy for individuals and family members impacted by mental health.
  • Special Abilities of North Texas – Empowering Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities through Individualized Skills and Socialization Support.
  • 29 Acres – to ensure people living with autism and other neurodiversity have community and a safe place to live.
  • PediPlace – a medical home for North Texas children with limited access to pediatric healthcare.

Food

  • LovePacs Denton – Lovepacs helps food insecure children in our community from going hungry over school holiday breaks.
  • Meals on Wheels Denton County – Provides nutritionally balanced meals and socialization to homebound elderly & persons with disabilities.
  • Feed the City by Cross Timbers Church – Help us hand out prepared food and pantry items to participants.
  • Denton Community Food Center – to provide food from a central community storehouse to individuals and families in need, or struggling with food insecurity.
  • Asbury Relief Ministry Food Pantry (ARM) – a food pantry for those  needing emergency food assistance. ARM is open to anyone living in the north Texas area, not just the city of Denton.
  • Freedom House Pantry – Operating as a “Client Choice Pantry”. Serving anyone with need.

Membership or Monetary Donation

There are a number of organizations that don’t have specific volunteer options, but do great things. You get involved in these by patronage, membership, or monetary donation.

  • Rotary Club of Denton – to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
  • Art & Jazz Fest – a free community event that features music and artists. The event has grown into one of the largest tourist attractions in North Texas and remains Denton’s signature event
  • Pridenton – to provide a space at our annual PRIDENTON events for all LGBTQ+ folks and Allies to celebrate the beautiful diversity within our communities.
  • Denton Black Chamber of Commerce/Denton Blues Festival – We represent many different facets of the community working together to create, grow and proliferate African-American owned businesses. All races, political affiliations, and socioeconomic levels are welcome to join. Organization hosts the annual Denton Blues Festival.
  • Denton Chamber of Commerce – Advocating, educating and collaborating for economic growth in Denton.
  • Denton Cinco de Mayo Festival – providing the spirit of celebration and friendship by sharing and showcasing rich cultural traditions, songs, dances, art exhibits and foods of the Hispanic Community. This Cinco de Mayo Celebration is a benefit to the Denton Community because it is “THE” Hispanic event of the year.
  • Thin Line Fest – Thin Line is a 5-day festival in Texas that includes documentaries, multi-genre music, & photography.
  • Denton Area Run Club (DARC) – an integral part of the running community in Denton, TX and the surrounding area. Bringing runners of all abilities and experience levels together, we host a weekly social run, long run and other club events throughout the year.
  • The Denton Main St Association – a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving downtown.
  • Texas Master Naturalist – Elm Fork Chapter – mission is to develop a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities for the State of Texas.
